East Veil Nebula
NGC 6992 - The Eastern Veil Nebula
Shot details
Processing
The remnants of a star that went supernova several thousand years ago, its light still visible, silently crossing the universe. This is only a portion of the overall nebula, with the full structure covering an area of the sky circa 6 times larger than the full moon covers. If the human eye had adapted to collect more light, the sky above our heads would be on fire with colour and structure.
Captured this with my Askar 71F and Nikon D5300 DSLR. It’s an unmodified camera, hence the lack of the striking red range of the spectrum, characteristic for this nebula. That being said, it’s interesting to capture mostly the blue range, it shows a hidden side to the structure of the nebula. I also attempted my first star mask, and I’m very pleased with the result. All processed and stacked in Siril, using built in scripts and the StarNet executable.
